The gruesome murder of two women, both masseuses working at a Spa In Munirka, South Delhi, has been pieced together by the Delhi Police, revealing a chilling tale of greed and jealousy within the seemingly innocuous world of urban spas. Last month, the hacked-up bodies of these two women surfaced days apart, sending shockwaves through the community and prompting a swift investigation.
Authorities have arrested two individuals in connection with the heinous crimes, uncovering a motive driven by financial disputes and sexual jealousy, suggesting the victims may have been involved in sex work alongside their spa jobs. The investigation highlights the darker side of some spa operations in areas like Munirka, where vulnerable individuals can become entangled in dangerous situations.
The victims, Sushma Rai, also known as Sonam, originally from Assam, and Nayesha from Nepal, were reportedly murdered by a group of four people. Sushma Rai’s body was dismembered with khukuris and choppers, her remains callously wrapped in a polythene bag and discarded near Baba Gang Nath Marg in South Delhi. Fearing Nayesha, Sushma’s roommate, might reveal information to the police, the perpetrators subjected her to a similar brutal fate, mutilating her body and scattering the pieces, including her decapitated head, in various locations across Munirka. This detail underscores the calculated and ruthless nature of the crime, potentially stemming from illicit activities associated with the spa environment in Munirka.
The investigation took a crucial turn when authorities focused on identifying the victims. “A tattoo near the lower portion of Sushma’s torso and another of three stars engraved on the right wrist were preserved by investigators and her friend identified them,” stated RP Upadhyay, joint commissioner of police (southeast range), Delhi. These tattoos, seemingly personal and insignificant, became instrumental in solving a brutal double murder case originating from a spa in Munirka.
Call records of Sushma led the police to key contacts in the days leading up to her murder. A witness then guided the police to the victims’ shared residence. Remarkably, the locations where the two bodies were discovered were merely 500 meters apart, both within the Munirka area, further solidifying the local connection to the spa and the crimes.
“During a search of the deceased’s rented room, police had not unearthed any clues like blood stains there,” Upadhyay added. However, the disappearance of another woman around the same time raised suspicions and pointed towards a connection. This missing woman was soon identified as Nayesha, the second victim, by her friend. Both women were confirmed to be spa workers from Nepal, highlighting a pattern of individuals from Nepal working in spas in areas like Munirka, seeking economic opportunities.
Further investigation revealed a syndicate of three men – Jeevan, Govind, and Arjun – who provided logistical and financial support to Nepalese nationals working in India, possibly including those employed at spas in Munirka. This group had rented multiple accommodations in South Delhi. Landlords confirmed that the trio had abruptly left Munirka village on the evening of November 25th, coinciding with the timeline of the murders.
“We have corroborated these sequences of events on technical parameters and it became imperative to carry out a profiling of the suspects,” Upadhyay explained. A thorough search of the rented accommodations used by the suspects, conducted with forensic experts, yielded bloodstained clothes in one location. The discovery site of the second body was found to be less than 50 meters from this accommodation, strengthening the link between the suspects, the location, and the spa in Munirka where the victims worked.
The investigation also brought to light Mini Sangam, alias Neha, from Shillong, who was in a close relationship with Arjun and acted as a foster mother to his children. Police apprehended Jeevan on December 9th at the Anand Vihar interstate bus terminal as he attempted to flee to Nepal.
Jeevan confessed that he, Govind, and Arjun had murdered both women, with Mini Sangam instigating and co-conspiring in the crimes. The motive, according to Jeevan’s confession, was financial. Sushma and Nayesha had deposited significant sums of money, earned from their work at the spa in Munirka, with Arjun. When the women repeatedly demanded their money back, Arjun refused. Adding a layer of complexity, Arjun had married Sushma shortly after Karva Chauth, seemingly to avoid repayment.
This marriage fueled jealousy in Mini Sangam, who allegedly orchestrated Sushma’s murder. After days of conspiracy, Sushma was brutally murdered, beheaded, and her body dumped in a sewer late on November 16th. This tragic case underscores the vulnerabilities and potential dangers faced by individuals working in spas, especially in urban areas, and highlights the importance of vigilance and protection for spa workers in places like Munirka.
