Escape to Tranquility: Your Perfect Weekend Thai Spa Getaway Near Chicago

Eaglewood Resort & Spa deluxe king room with balcony overlooking the grounds, perfect for a relaxing weekend spa getaway.

Looking for a blissful escape from the everyday hustle? A weekend getaway to a spa can be the perfect antidote to stress, offering relaxation and rejuvenation. Recently, I was fortunate enough to experience a surprise weekend retreat at Eaglewood Resort & Spa, a fantastic destination to celebrate a special occasion and unwind. Situated just a short 45-minute drive, or 25 miles, from Chicago, this resort offers a convenient yet secluded escape. Excited by the prospect of spa treatments, bowling, swimming, and exploring the resort’s various amenities, I eagerly anticipated our arrival.

Luxurious Accommodations for a Relaxing Weekend

Our weekend package included a stay in a deluxe king room within one of the resort’s impressive towers. Eaglewood boasts a variety of room options, from junior suites to rooms with scenic golf course views. Our deluxe room was well-appointed, ensuring a comfortable and relaxing stay. Amenities included a private walk-out balcony, a flatscreen HD TV with cable, a spacious work desk, an in-room safe, an iHome station for music, and wireless internet access. Plush terrycloth robes and comfortable pillow-top mattresses added to the luxurious feel. Room service, with menus for lunch, dinner, and late-night cravings, is also available, and complimentary coffee is offered daily in the main hall.

Dining Delights and Nearby Culinary Options

After settling into our room, the initial plan was to head straight to the pool. However, a quick detour was needed to pick up forgotten swimming trunks nearby. The convenience of Eaglewood Resort & Spa’s location is a definite plus, with numerous stores and restaurants just a short drive away. Taking advantage of this, we explored local dining options and discovered Portillo’s, a mere 10 minutes from the resort. This particular location, with its charming 50s diner-style decor, quickly became my favorite among the Portillo’s I’ve visited. Beyond Portillo’s, a wide array of familiar dining choices are easily accessible, including IHOP, Giordano’s, Panera Bread, McDonald’s, Subway, Dairy Queen, Culver’s, Starbucks, Chipotle, and Burger King. Whether you’re seeking a quick bite or a casual meal, options abound just outside the resort.

Fun and Games: Bowling and Resort Activities

With swimming postponed, we decided to explore the resort’s bowling alley. Guests enjoy a rate of $10 per 30 minutes, including shoe rental, while outside visitors pay double. We had a great time bowling, enjoying a few beers and the lively music. A tip for those musically inclined: for $5 you can select 12 songs on the digital jukebox, offering more value than the $1 for just two songs. The bowling alley provides a fun and engaging activity within the resort itself.

Following our bowling session, we finally took a dip in the pool. Initially, the water was a bit chilly, so we first relaxed in the inviting hot tub, sauna, and steam room. After warming up, we ventured into the pool, which was pleasantly uncrowded during our visit. However, we learned from a pool member that it can become quite busy during peak weekend hours. Later that evening, we enjoyed drinks at Turnham’s, one of the resort’s two restaurants. I savored a glass of wine while Myron opted for a hot toddy, accompanied by a light dinner of wings and signature sliders.

The Ultimate Relaxation: Spa Treatments and Tranquility

The highlight of our weekend, and a must-do for any “Weekend Thai Spa” enthusiast (though perhaps not explicitly Thai, the relaxation is certainly comparable), was the spa experience. Upon arrival, we booked a couples massage for the day of our departure, after checkout. The Spa at Eaglewood offers a comprehensive menu of services, including various massage types, facials, manicures, and pedicures, all designed to promote relaxation and well-being. As it was Myron’s first massage, I was especially excited to share this experience with him.

We arrived at the spa a bit early to allow time to change and were greeted warmly by the receptionist. After receiving locker keys, we were directed to separate locker rooms where we changed into soft robes and slippers. We then met in the ‘Tranquility Room,’ a dimly lit, Japanese-inspired relaxation space featuring snacks, hot tea, and refreshing lemon water. This serene environment immediately set a calming tone for our spa treatments.

Our 30-minute massages focused on the upper body, back, arms, and head, providing the perfect conclusion to our weekend escape. As my masseuse skillfully worked on my muscles, I felt stress and tension simply melt away. Peeking over at Myron, it was clear he was experiencing the same blissful release. The only downside was that it felt too short – we both wished it could have lasted longer!

The Spa at Eaglewood Resort & Spa is highly recommended for anyone visiting. The extensive service menu caters to various relaxation and rejuvenation needs. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, ensuring we felt comfortable and pampered throughout our visit. For a truly relaxing weekend, incorporating spa treatments is essential.

Eaglewood Resort & Spa strikes the perfect balance – close enough to Chicago for a quick trip, yet far enough to feel like a true escape. Even a single night’s stay makes for a wonderful romantic date or a fun family outing. With its diverse offerings, including a golf course in the summer and nearby entertainment, Eaglewood is an ideal destination for your next rejuvenating getaway. Consider it for your next “weekend Thai spa”-inspired experience, even if it’s just a weekend spa retreat close to home.
