Visakhapatnam’s “Nirvana Thai Spa Massage Centre,” a location now prominently known as Nirvana Spa Vizag, is under intense scrutiny after a recent police raid unveiled potential illegal operations. On Saturday, coordinated efforts between the Special Branch police and MVP Colony officers led to a raid on the spa, resulting in the registration of cases against both the spa’s management and four Thai women employed there.
Investigations revealed that the four Thai nationals were working at Nirvana Spa Vizag while possessing tourist visas, a direct violation of Indian immigration regulations. These foreign employees were reportedly compensated on a daily wage basis for their services at the spa, situated in the Seethammadhara area of the city. Preliminary inquiries suggest that these women had been employed at the Visakhapatnam spa since January of the current year.
Avinash Joshi, identified as the organizer of Nirvana Spa Vizag, is now facing accusations of illegally employing foreign nationals in contravention of established norms. Adding to the severity of the situation, authorities are also investigating reports indicating that Nirvana Spa Vizag routinely offered cross-gender massages as a customer attraction strategy. This practice has raised ethical questions and further complicated the legal issues surrounding the spa.
According to Additional DCP (Special Branch) P.V. Ravi Kumar, a formal notice has been served to the spa organizer, demanding a detailed explanation regarding the employment of individuals holding tourist visas. The scope of the investigation extends beyond mere visa violations. Law enforcement is actively pursuing allegations suggesting potential human trafficking and the exploitation of women, with suspicions of the spa being involved in the flesh trade.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the four Thai women under multiple sections of the Foreigners Act, 1946. Police officials have confirmed that the women will be detained and subsequently deported back to their home country following due process.
Police Commissioner T. Yoganand has issued a stern warning, emphasizing that severe actions will be taken against individuals who arrive in Visakhapatnam on tourist visas and engage in unlawful activities. The raid on Nirvana Spa Vizag serves as a clear indication of law enforcement’s commitment to upholding regulations and preventing illegal operations within the city, particularly within establishments offering services like spas and massage centers.
