After a surprisingly quick five-hour flight, the Costa Rican coastline, reminiscent of Hawaii, welcomed us. Landing at Liberia Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) around 12:40 pm local time, we breezed through immigration and customs. By 1 pm, we were on our way to the rental car center. A car is crucial for exploring beyond the resort.
Liberia’s location requires at least an hour’s drive to most resorts, and the JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa was no exception. Our 90-minute drive was mostly smooth, except for a short unpaved section connecting the county road to the resort. Concerns about driving in Costa Rica are often exaggerated. If you can navigate challenging roads at home, you’ll likely manage just fine here.
We chose the JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa for its attractive points redemption rate. 140,000 Bonvoy points covered our five-night stay (the fifth night is typically free on Marriott point redemptions). The W, in comparison, cost 260,000 points for the same period. With work on the agenda, our priority was a relaxing pool, and the JW Marriott boasts the largest in Central America. The W’s vibrant party atmosphere felt less appealing this time.
The resort is nestled within the larger Hacienda Pinilla development. Passing through Hacienda Pinilla’s gate was our first step towards the luxurious oasis of the JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa.
The expansive grounds and tranquil atmosphere of the JW Marriott Guanacaste provide the perfect setting for a relaxing and rejuvenating vacation. Whether you’re looking to unwind by the pool, indulge in spa treatments, or explore the natural beauty of Costa Rica, the JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa offers an unforgettable experience.
