The Palms Hotel And Spa Miami, a 250-room oasis on Collins Avenue in Mid-Beach, offers a unique blend of luxury, sustainability, and tropical charm. Forget the typical South Beach experience; this hotel provides a tranquil escape with lush gardens, sparkling pools, and breathtaking ocean views.

My recent stay began with a less than stellar check-in experience. However, waking up to a panoramic view of the hotel’s 1.5 acres of palm-filled gardens, pools, and the vast Atlantic Ocean quickly erased any initial disappointments. The vibrant colors of the landscape were a stark contrast to the greys of home, offering an immediate sense of relaxation and escape.

A fully functioning elevator whisked me down to the ground floor, where I enjoyed a delicious breakfast on an elegant terrace reminiscent of The Hamptons or Anguilla. The charming ambiance and attentive service set the tone for a day of exploration. The hotel’s design seamlessly blends Art Deco flourishes from its 1940s origins with modern tropical aesthetics and a soothing peppermint color palette.

The Palms Hotel and Spa Miami, independently owned and operated by a German family since 1992, exudes a sophisticated European feel with polished flagstone tiles, rattan ceiling fans, and lush palm-filled urns. The lobby’s grandeur rivals that of the renowned Four Seasons Surf Club, known for its exquisite beauty. Outside, giant palm leaves and rare orchids create a sensory experience, immersing guests in the natural beauty of the surroundings.

As a member of the Beyond Green portfolio, The Palms Hotel and Spa Miami is committed to sustainability. The hotel incorporates eco-friendly practices in a fun and engaging way, encouraging guests to participate in beach cleanups in exchange for a scoop of gelato.

The culinary experience at The Palms is exceptional. Chef Diana Tandia, trained by renowned chefs Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Daniel Boulud, creates fresh, wholesome dishes using locally sourced organic ingredients. The Essensia Restaurant offers a menu that emphasizes healthy and flavorful cuisine, perfectly complementing the hotel’s wellness focus. My stay was a whirlwind of Aveda spa treatments, boardwalk strolls, refreshing cocktails, and delicious palm heart salads.

Miami’s thriving luxury hotel scene is expanding, with new properties under development, including an Aman hotel near The Palms. This vibrant city offers a diverse range of accommodations, but The Palms Hotel and Spa Miami stands out for its unique character, commitment to sustainability, and ability to provide a true sense of home away from home. The Palms Hotel and Spa in Miami proved that larger hotels can possess distinct character, embrace environmentally conscious practices, and offer a welcoming atmosphere.
