Accessing Financial Aid with Hokie SPA Guest Accounts

The Hokie SPA guest account feature provides a secure way for Virginia Tech students to share their financial aid information with designated individuals. This article outlines how students can grant and revoke access, and how guests can utilize these accounts to view shared information.

Granting and Revoking Access in Hokie SPA

Students control which information is shared and with whom. This access includes details such as award letters, aid requirements, holds, academic standing, cost of attendance, and loan history. Importantly, granting access allows viewing of information for all aid years.

For Students: Granting Access

  1. Log into Hokie SPA using your student PID and password.
  2. Navigate to “Guest Account Access”.
  3. Input the email address of the individual you wish to grant access.
  4. Select the specific information types to be shared.
  5. Click “Grant Access”.

For Students: Revoking Access

Removing a guest’s access is equally straightforward:

  1. Log into Hokie SPA.
  2. Go to “Guest Account Access”.
  3. Locate the list of individuals with current access.
  4. Select the individual and the information types to revoke.
  5. Click “Remove Access”. Confirmation emails will be sent to both the student and the guest. The guest’s account will automatically update to reflect these changes.

Guest Account Usage and Management

For Guests: Account Creation and Login

Guests will receive two emails upon being granted access: one invitation to create an account (valid for 48 hours) and another confirming the student’s name and the shared information.

Creating a guest account involves:

  1. Following the link in the invitation email.
  2. Completing the form with your name, address, phone number, and a password meeting Virginia Tech’s requirements.

Accessing shared information:

  1. Go to the Guest Account Information Gateway.
  2. Log in using the email address associated with the invitation and your chosen password.
  3. Select “Financial Aid Information”.
  4. Choose the information type, aid year, and student.

Important: Always use the “Exit” button and close your browser after each session to safeguard privacy.

For Guests: Deleting Your Account

To permanently delete your guest account:

  1. Navigate to the Guest Account Information Gateway.
  2. Click the “To Edit your Account Information, Click Here” link below the login area.
  3. Log into the Virginia Tech Guest Account Management System (GAMS).
  4. Click “Delete this Account” at the top of the form, then confirm. A verification email will be sent. Note that deleting your account requires creating a new one should future access be granted.

This system allows for convenient and secure sharing of vital financial aid information between Virginia Tech students and their designated individuals. By following these steps, both students and guests can effectively navigate the Hokie SPA guest account system.
